Life is short and your time is important, and you can’t afford to waste it with negative people. Selfishness can be healthy, especially when dealing with toxic people. Don’t smile, don’t change your posture, and don’t comment on what they say. So whenever they bombard you with the latest drama, or bad news, or negativity - act like you don’t care. If you’re not involved, there’s not much they can do. Energy vampires can feed off your energy only when you’re involved. Work on yourself, become the best you can be, and you’ll basically be immune. That’s why they usually target those who are needy, or insecure. It may sound like it’s too good to be true, but trust me on this one: it’s very hard for toxic people to take advantage of people with a healthy self esteem. So if you’re in a relationship with a control freak, or even worse, if there are control freaks in your workplace, it can be a bit of a nightmare. Some people feel the need to control everything in their own life, which is bad enough.īut in some cases this extends to other people’s lives as well. Abusive narcissists are some of the worst people you’ll ever meet. They believe they are better than everybody else, and that somehow that justifies taking advantage of them. Narcissists also tend to have an exaggerated sense of self-worth and self-importance. Those with a narcissistic personality tend not to understand other people’s feelings. Some are relatively harmless (think compulsive talkers), but some can seriously interfere with your health. Energy vampiresĭid you know that some people feed on other people’s energy?įor example, have you ever spent a couple of hours with someone who made you feel super tired immediately after, while their mood and energy improved? They’ll tell you you can’t, shouldn’t, or won’t do whatever, and then come up with the most ridiculous reasons to justify their words. Naysayers are often too afraid to do anything great in their own life, and their attitude simply reflects that. And even if you don’t have any goals in particular, avoid them. If you have big goals and dreams, don’t allow naysayers to kill your motivation. Fake friendsĪny friendship that isn’t genuine will affect your mental health in one way or another.įake friends may talk behind your back, constantly ask for favors, be jealous, or make you feel uncomfortable for being yourself.įake friends can be insidious - always trust your gut and learn to spot the red flags sooner rather than later.
